Stupid Never Dies certainly has a slow start, but now you’re beginning to meet the bosses of the game like Afreet, it certainly hots up. You see what I did there? Afreet is the first proper boss of the game, and offers a new challenge you wouldn’t have faced before.
Gone are the easily massacred masses and the Elite Enemies that’ll cause little problem, replaced by a demonic horned being with some clear inspirations from other media. How to Beat Afreet in Stupid Never Dies
As the first real boss in Stupid Never Dies, Afreet feels like he’s there to prepare you for the real challenges down the line, more so than actually being challenging himself. Almost any Style will work against him, but if this is the first fight, you’re limited to Werewolf and Harpy Styles anyway.
Afreet has some interesting attacks, perhaps more varied and useful than other bosses, but he doesn’t hit half as hard. His main irritating attack you’ll need to avoid is the summoning of a ball of energy, that will suck you towards it if you’re within the circle. Dash and jump away, as Afreet will use this moment to attack you with some heavier moves otherwise.
Unsurprisingly, considering what he looks like, he has a few fire attacks, but thankfully they’re all easily avoided. He’ll set fire to the floor and then push it towards you, so either run to the left or right, or far easier, just jump over it.
Similarly, when he jumps into the air and swoops down in an arc to hurt you, move to the side and he’ll miss. Same goes for his unblockable attacks.
Unlike many of the enemies in the game, this is pretty much the best tactic for all of his attacks. Don’t bother Stupid Parrying, just move sideways, and his limited movement will hinder him. Make sure of your Style’s skills, which if you’ve got Phantom Mirage for your Werewolf, will make quick and easy work of his health bar, the same as Davy’s Bites will do.
Keep on the offensive, make use of the Werewolf’s quick movement, and avoid his area of effect attacks however you can. When he summons them, ignore the weak enemies and focus your efforts on Afreet, but ensure you continue to use your bite attack as much as possible to regain health.
