One click and you're done. Thank you!
Stupid Never Dies is full throttle now. You’re mowing your enemies down like cannon fodder, moving through the layers, and levelling up like mad. You’ll have just made your way through the three items needed to gain access into Duke Dragul’s castle, and upon offering them up on their pedestals, gained access to the main man himself after meeting him earlier during your Count Vlad boss fight.
Considering how much he’s built up in the lead up to this boss fight, I will say now, he’s no harder than any others you’ve fought thus far. Either way, we’ll walk you through the finer points of how to beat Duke Dragul in Stupid Never Dies, and how to do it easily.
How to Beat Duke Dragul in Stupid Never Dies
Duke Dragul has two phases, although they’re not that different in practice. The majority of his attacks are very vampire-Style-coded, so you’ll be more than familiar with how that works by now, having killed quite a few in the previous layers and floors to get here.
Thankfully, unlike the likes of Afreet or Wyvern, there’s no worries of either fire or environmental damage in this arena. A huge, circular arena and the only enemy is Duke Dragul, allowing you to full focus on him. With the very last thing you did being a layer full of enemies of all types, I’d hope you have two Styles at hand to make this fight easier, otherwise, if you’re going at Duke Dragul just with Davy, you’re going to struggle.
The two Styles I’d suggest, if you can get them of course, is the Ghost Fusion Will-o-Wisp, due to its explosive energy skill, and the Soul Reap Scythe Lich, in no large part thanks to its chargeable sweeping skill that’ll come in handy later on. If you’re not lucky enough to grab them, then Werewolf or Snow Fairy both work well due to the speed they offer. Cyclops is powerful, but not great at moving, so is a weakness here.
Whatever Styles you end up with, when the fight begins you’ll want to be on the front foot. If you’ve got any Bites stored up, immediately use them on Duke Dragul, similar to your L1 skills. Not only is Duke Dragul quick on his feet, he also uses his bats as a shield, making hitting him difficult, so you’ll need to take every opportunity you can to do just that. I’d suggest you don’t use your Davy Burst first thing – if you bought it on the previous Landing Zone -, and keep it as a backup for if you’re getting swamped in the second half of the fight.
Beating Duke Dragul is further complicated by his vampirism, as if he takes too much damage, he will dash through you, taking your blood and lifeforce, giving it to himself in the process. When this happens, all you can do is double down and attack more. Make good use of your Stupid Parries, as Duke Dragul will telegraph all his attacks, and if you see him winding up to attack with pools of blood, step off and avoid them. Wait until they disappear, or draw him into attacking you when this happens, and then start up the damage again.
If, and only if, you have time, I’d use your Vomit Spray attack as Davy when he’s winding up the blood puddle attack, as he stands still for a while during that attack, and could be getting poisoned the entire time if you time it right. If you’re not confident or have enough time, don’t try it though, because it can result in unnecessary damage otherwise.
When you’ve hurt him a significant amount, he’ll drop into the floor and retreat back to where he started the fight from. You’ll see him split into two, cloning himself in blood, effectively, and now you have two Duke Draguls to contend with. When this happens, you’ll be tempted to split focus between the two. Don’t do this! Instead, get more acquainted with your Stupid Parry timing, and now would be a good time to use the Davy Burst you’ve hopefully saved from earlier. It’ll be useful for damaging the main Duke Dragul quicker.
This situation is why I suggest the two styles I did above as well. Ghost Fusion will cause an explosion that can damage both, without you implicitly focusing on the blood Duke Dragul, and Soul Reap Scythe from the Lich Style will hurt them both in a sweeping manner if they’re both in front of you.
Either way, regardless of the Styles you have, the onus is on you to get your licks in as quickly as possible. Duke Dragul hits hard, and when he clouds the arena to make it dark bar a circle around you, you may find your health dropping like a stone as he attacks out of nowhere. Try to have it wrapped up by the time he does this, or at least be close to.
After you get his health to zero, you’ll see another cutscene with him almost thankful for the ‘sweet’ taste of death, and then the Not Bad at All, Zombie trophy will pop. That’s the second general of KOM killed, and now you know how to beat Duke Dragul in Stupid Never Dies!
