Jason Statham Led ‘A Working Man’ Could Continue the Explosive Resurgence of Suicide Squad’s David Ayer

The director once involved in one of Warner’s biggest controversies in the now-defunct DCEU, the successful yet flawed Suicide Squad filmmaker, returns behind the camera to bring a new action film. A Working Man, starring Jason Statham, has released a new trailer showcasing Statham’s retired Marine, who must do the impossible to help his newly adopted family.

Could A Working Man Be David Ayer’s Resurrection?

Zack Snyder’s DCEU died a very public death, with poor movie after poor movie, but thanks to fan support and a campaign that superseded the internet, Snyder was able to release his supposed original vision for Justice League, the four-hour-long Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Riding this wave of fan support, David Ayer attempted to release his own cut of Suicide Squad, which, according to the director, was completely altered and reworked from his original vision.

Ayer mentioned that the studio itself dismantled his version to create a product that could match the fierce competition in the emerging superhero subgenre, but ultimately what we got with Suicide Squad (2016) was a travesty, according to fans, critics, and the director himself.

This was one of Warner Brothers’ major issues, as multiple executive changes and poor marketing strategies, among other factors, led to the collapse of the extended universe. This ultimately resulted in James Gunn taking charge, and deciding to reboot the entire universe. It began with Creature Commandos, and its first live-action film will be Superman, set to premiere this July.
