looter borja boss in the relic first guardian

When it comes to the bosses within The Relic: First Guardian, there aren’t many like Looter Borja and Deceitful Gavin. Before we get into it, please be warned: yes, the title of this guide is a spoiler in and of itself, but if you haven’t found these bosses yet, the rest of our guide will be a spoiler on how to find them and the ultimate conclusion after the fact.

How to Find Looter Borja and Deceitful Gavin in The Relic: First Guardian

Normally, when you search for a boss within The Relic: First Guardian, you will find them quite easily, but when it comes to Looter Borja and Deceitful Gavin, there is a small amount of running around to do instead.

In order to trigger the boss fight between Looter Borja and Deceitful Gavin, the first thing you should look to do is actually rescue Gavin from the camp that is owned by Cleaver, another boss within the game. Before entering Cleaver’s boss room, you can find Gavin tied up just to the left of the entrance of Cleaver’s boss room, and if you save him, it begins the quest A Matter of Life and Death.

Once this quest is activated, you can then find Gavin by a rest point towards the bottom left side of the map, as he wants to take you to Borja, but instead there are numerous bandits nearby who are restricting your access. After talking with Gavin, he will be grateful for your help and will aid you in fighting some of the bandits on the way up to Borja’s hideout. However, as you fight one of the groups of bandits, Gavin will get hurt and will then tell you to carry on without him.

After doing so, you will need to carry on further up the hill until you find another rest spot and a cave. Now you are entering the endgame of this quest, as you can head through the cave until you find Looter Borja waiting in a boss room for you to enter.

How to Beat Looter Borja and Deceitful Gavin

Now that you have found Looter Borja, you can begin his boss fight. In terms of combat, Looter Borja has a few secrets up his sleeves, one of which is bombs that he will throw at the player once the fight begins; upon collision, they create a pool of poison that can lead to poison status build-up.

These bombs can be quite dangerous if you aren’t careful, as you can dodge them, but because he throws two bombs consecutively, the dodge window for the second bomb is quite small. Because of this, I found that blocking was the most consistent way to avoid taking damage from the bombs while also limiting the amount of poison build-up that takes place.

After avoiding the bombs from Looter Borja, there isn’t too much else to worry about in terms of his attacks, as he doesn’t have many attacks; they are quite easy to block or avoid, but if they do connect with you, they can deal a rather devastating amount of damage.

The first attack is when Looter Borja prepares to do a large cleaving attack over his head, which begins a 5-strike combo where he does 4 cleaves over his head before finishing the combo off with a large jumping cleave attack. Another attack that can be quite dangerous is when he swipes his axe from side to side 4 times before finishing off with another jumping cleave attack. Both of these attacks if hit can be quite painful as recovering from them is a challenge, but in terms of avoiding them, it is quite simple as they can be easily dodged or parried.

There are some other attacks that Looter Borja uses throughout the fight that are quite long combos, like a running attack which then leads into more overhead cleaves, or a second attack that has him cleaving upwards, doing this 4 times before a small smashing cleave. However, these attacks are used as often by the boss, meaning that there is a chance you won’t often see them, reducing their risk.

Once you get Looter Borja down to around 75% health, this is where the gimmick of the boss fight kicks in as Gavin from before enters the fray as Deceitful Gavin, making this a two-vs-one fight. When it comes to how Deceitful Gavin fights, it’s quite simple, as he uses a dagger and likes to run around the arena, meaning that he is much faster than Looter Borja and can be a bigger threat in certain situations.

Because Deceitful Gavin is faster, it is recommended that you deal with him first, as he is rather relentless with his attacks, and because he uses a dagger as a weapon, he is rather fast in his combos but deals small amounts of damage. While fighting Deceitful Gavin, the most common attack he employs is running towards the player, doing two slashes with his dagger and then retreating.

However, once you avoid this combo, there is a small attack window for you to counterattack, and with Deceitful Gavin being a rather weak enemy, he can be quite easily defeated, as his armour is quite low, meaning that if you time it right and have the right amount of power, you can even kill Deceitful Gavin in as many as three skills.

After defeating Deceitful Gavin, you will then have plenty of time and opportunity to focus on Looter Borja instead, ensuring a rather easy win if you are patient.

Once you defeat both of these bosses, the loot won’t be highly impressive, as you will only acquire one item from the boss, but after defeating the boss, there is a chest room just after with two chests and some pickups filled with gold; however, the loot you get from the boss is the following:

  • A Relic – Weak Point Detection
  • Relic Energy
