How to Beat The Wingless Woman in The Relic: First Guardian

how to beat the wingless woman in the relic first guardian

Prepare yourself for arguably the first real test of The Relic: First Guardian (yes, even more so than Mog), with The Wingless Woman being both a real change-up in tactics, but also a variety of boss we haven’t seen before.

As cool as she may be, and as harrowing and traumatic as her story is, she will prove problematic if you’re not prepared for the fight ahead, but don’t worry, because we’ll break down exactly how to beat The Wingless Woman in The Relic: First Guardian, as well as where to find her, and what special loot you’ll get once you do eventually defeat her.

How to Find The Wingless Woman in The Relic: First Guardian

Finding The Wingless Woman could be as simple as you accidentally walking into her, or us sending you on your way. To the left of the Fast Travel Point, the ‘Field of Forgotten Footprints’ are two roads heading south. One heads into Shadeleaf Cave, the other, towards The Wingless Woman. Make sure you head into the cave when you find it, as you’ll want to grab the chest.

Once you find the right road, head down it, and you’ll come across a building covered in blood and debris. You’ll know you’re in the right place, as the sky will darken, the music will grow ominous and the title ‘The House of Buried Wings’ will appear. Search through the house, grab the notes and listen to her story, but after that, make sure you’ve rested at the nearby Tibelle’s Blessing, and head through the gap in the fence, because you’ve found The Wingless Woman.

How to Beat The Wingless Woman

As already said, The Wingless Woman is one of the earliest indicators as to whether you’re be good enough to complete The Relic: First Guardian – a proper skill check. AS SOON as you can lock on to her, you’re going to want to go the attack. She’s sitting in the distance, so, whilst she gets to her feet, throw both an elemental attack and a Shard of Emberflame. This will instill Burn and take about a sixth of her health off. If you’re feeling particularly brave, get in close and, if you’re using a Sword and Shield and have the skill, use Menacing Strike.

The Wingless Woman has several attacks that absolutely will cause you problems if you’re not paying attention, and her haphazard way of using them can make her hard to block at times. Her most favoured attack is her slashing with her claws, which she’ll do in quick succession, usually after stumbling towards you with two smaller, slower strikes. Block them, and you’ll be some distance towards breaking her poise quickly.

UPCOMING BOSSES

  • Corvus the Bloodthirsty
  • Igwis, High Priest of the Blighted Sanctuary

She also has several Area of Effect attacks, so make sure to block throughout those. She’ll drop to her knees and scream, sending pulses out that at the beginning of the fight will hurt and instill Curse on you, but after her health drops halfway, will outright kill you if you’re too close. She will also periodically leap into the air and slam down, which will leave you disoriented and, if you’re stamina isn’t high enough, stunned and open to attack. If this happens, she usually follows it up with her slashing combo as mentioned above, which if not blocked correctly, will also kill you outright.

All of this, and The Wingless Woman still isn’t finished, as if you stand off her too much, and give her too much distance, she will run off, drop to her knees, and feed on something, which unfortunately brings her health back up and regenerates. If you see this happen, DO NOT leave her too it. Get in close, unleash your skills and damage her. She only stops once her poise is broken.

If you manage to block her slashing attack twice, you’ll also likely break her poise, and when this happens, you’ll again, want to get in close and unleash hell on her. I used the same combo of skills each time:

  • Menacing Strike to push in close quickly.
  • Focusing Strike to damage from the air and hurt her a lot.
  • Overwhelm to finish up my skill attack.

After the skill barrage, she’d be close to getting up, so I’d back off and throw either a Shard of Emberflame (again instilling Burn), or an elemental attack to damage her a little more.

Whereas other Brutal fights are a matter of patience and waiting for your moment, the key into how to beat The Wingless Woman is dominance, forcefulness and an unrelenting attack. If you let her get the upper hand, you absolutely will die quickly, and painfully.

Once you’ve defeated her, you’ll get the following rewards:

  • Arcane Resonance
  • Fragment of the Corrupted Abyss x 2
  • Relic Magic
  • Celestial Maiden, Who Lost the Sky Journal Entry

Now, you’ll turn around and attempt to leave, you’ll find Hersom on his knees at the exit of the arena, and it turns out that The Wingless Woman is in fact his daughter.
