Before you reach the village of Edens within The Relic: First Guardian, there is one final boss that you will want to take on. In order to find and fight Selvarn, the Gilded Wretch, there is a rather intriguing process to follow, but after doing so, he is a worthwhile boss to find and conquer. We’ll walk you through all of that, his rewards, location, and, of course, exactly how to beat Selvarn, the Gilded Wretch.
How to Find Selvarn, the Gilded Wretch in The Relic: First Guardian
Throughout the world of The Relic: First Guardian, there are numerous villages hidden that each have their own unique stories, loot, and enemies to find to explain why they are essentially ruins, but this village is a little different, as the core of the village is incredibly unique.
As you enter the village, you will begin to notice that there are notes left around the village that explain what has happened to the village and its inhabitants. Eventually, you will begin to piece together that this village isn’t as simple as it looks, as you will eventually be guided to the centre of the village, where a hole can be found, but be warned: don’t sprint in, as you could likely fall to your death.
Instead, what you need to do is parkour down some scaffolding within the hole leading you into a dark set of ruins filled with more monsters and loot galore. As you explore this location, you will eventually stumble upon a closed door by a Tibelle’s blessing, indicating that the boss is behind this door.

How to Beat Selvarn, the Gilded Wretch
Now that you have managed to find Selvarn, the Gilded Wretch within the depths and darkness, you will be ready to take him on in all his glory. As you manage to open the door, you will notice that Selvarn is in a rather unique arena as he walks along mountains of gold that have been hoarded there for ages, and the notes that lead you to him will explain why he is there in the first place.
The instant you walk into Selvarn’s arena, he will jump straight into action by using a unique attack that a lot of people won’t see coming, which is by him charging his sword using similar energy to Vermion as he slashes through the air, launching arcs of energy towards the player twice. Although this can be quite intimidating, it is very easy to avoid by dodging or parrying, with dodging being the easier option.
After doing this, Selvarn is quite a standard boss in terms of his attacks, as he begins with the casual sword combos that can either be parried or dodged in order to stay alive, but if you are looking to create opportunities to attack, parrying is the way to go in order to break Selvarn’s poise.
UPCOMING BOSSES
- The Unreturned
- Drugar, Protector of Edens
However, Selvarn doesn’t stay as a simple boss for long, as he doesn’t just have the one attack that uses the special energy that Vermion uses but instead has multiple. One combo involves Selvarn doing 2-3 sword slashes before eventually charging his weapon to do an overhead slam with his sword, leading to an AOE attack with said energy dealing rather devastating damage to the player.
The more shocking combo that Selvarn uses is that he will do a 7-attack combo in which he will constantly slash his sword towards the player 6 times before doing a large charge-up with his sword, leading into another large slam with his sword. Because of the length of this combo and its normal attack speed, if you are not prepared, you can easily run out of stamina within the middle of the combo and be left defenseless.
Other than this, fighting Selvarn is quite calm as a boss, as he doesn’t constantly attack the player but instead takes time between his attacks, providing you a space to breathe; however, during this fight, the frame rate does tend to drop due to the gold on the floor and the gold that flies through the air during each slam attack.
Once you defeat Selvarn, there is some good news, as when he falls to the floor, he will begin dropping loot, and again, unlike other bosses, it isn’t as simple as a pop-up on a screen, but instead, piles of gold will end up around the room, allowing you to pick up plenty of currency for the road. After this, you will also receive:
- A Core of Corrupted Magic
- A Weapon – Heart of Greed Longsword
- Selvarn’s Lore
After you defeat Selvarn, finding your exit will be a small challenge in the dark, but once you get your bearings and look towards where the boss was originally stationed upon entering the room, you can then head to the right-hand side of the room, and there will be a small corridor that will take you to an elevator leading you out of this cave system.
