So far, Mortal Shell 2 has been a rather serious game with monsters galore murdering people, creatures made with haunting visages, and so much more, but the Wandering Shepherd is where the game begins to lean into its wacky side.
If you are using this guide to find The Wandering Shepherd, as you haven’t discovered them yet, we recommend that you look towards Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist, as he opens the area you need for this next boss.
How to Find The Wandering Shepherd in Mortal Shell 2
To find The Wandering Shepherd, as we said above, you will need to have beaten Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist, to open the Corrupted Gate on the northeast side of the map before you can search for The Wandering Shepherd.
Once you enter the Corrupted Gate, you will begin to explore a new area known as the Sunken Village, which is a rather linear area to explore with a few minor side paths to explore for extra rewards. To find The Wandering Shepherd, you will first have to follow the path until you reach a rather large swamplike area.
Although this area isn’t too large, there is a chest you can unlock by lighting 3 candles within this area, similar to Mushroom Village, but once you complete this area, you can head out over a bridge into another small open area that is rather swamplike but with a few houses on a raised platform.
To reach the raised platform, head to the left of this area, where you will find a small ramp and another beacon. This beacon is the sign you should look for that The Wandering Shepherd is just around the corner. To the left of this beacon, you will see a bridge; after crossing this bridge, The Wandering Shepherd is waiting for you in the most unusual boss fight so far.

How to Beat The Wandering Shepherd
When it comes to fighting The Wandering Shepherd, your first instinct would be to chase the floating pied piper around the arena in order to kill him, but unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the wisest decision. Instead, what you need to do is focus your attention on his woolly herd.
Although you have made it this far in Mortal Shell 2, there are still some challenges to overcome within the Corrupted Gate, so here is our build that we used to beat The Wandering Shepherd and his many minions.
- Tiel Shell – Location Here
- The Iconoclast – Starting weapon.
- Untarnished Seal.
- Forgotten Crossbow – Location Here
- Retribution Stone – Increase Riposte Damage
- Auspicious Stone – Improves Melee Critical Damage
- Marksman Stone – Improves Ranged Critical Damage
- Parasitic Stone – Gain stacks of Leech after every kill
- Volatile Fragment – Enemies explode after being killed by a ranged attack
- Arbiter’s Prize – Imbues weapon with Bloodcurse
Now again, this might sound rather easy, making you chase around a group of sheep and wail on them with a sword, but sadly these sheep have gone a little aggressive, as these sheep walk on their back legs and can throw one helluva punch as they herd around you to beat you with some baaar-baric damage.
Once you begin to defeat these sheep, you will notice that each hit you deal will begin to weaken the boss’s poise until its poise is full, meaning that you will be able to stun the boss and open it up for a riposte that will shear the enemy’s health away in seconds. Other than this, there are situations in which The Wandering Shepherd will use his weapon on his back to attack the player in order to defend their flock, but this wide sweeping attack is quite easily avoided if you keep the boss in your sights and dodge at the right time.
After you get the boss down to around half health, you will begin to notice that the boss will have changed slightly, as instead of being a human playing a pipe, The Wandering Shepherd has changed to be a sheep in human clothing, which is just as hilarious as a pied piper keeping their flock safe and then using them as a weapon to gnaw at your ankles. One of the more surprising scenarios that you will come across during this boss fight isn’t actually fighting the boss or surviving; it is resisting the urge to wet yourself laughing when you are polymorphed into a sheep yourself by the boss as you waddle around the arena throwing your hooves at the boss as best you can.
However, do not worry, as this situation is only temporary; you will just need to survive as long as you can in order to transform back into your normal self, but feel free to take advantage of your sheep body to hit the boss or your fellow sheep.
Other than this, fighting The Wandering Shepherd is a rather simple task, with you only needing to manage the various sheep that are surrounding you; if you can do this, you will be perfectly capable of defeating this boss. Once you defeat this boss, sadly you won’t be able to claim yourself a shepherd’s pie, but instead you will earn yourself these rewards:
- A Shepherd’s Totem – Sheep Polymorph on command; it’s hilarious
- 6,000 Gloom
- Etching Needles – Can upgrade Tarstones
After you defeat this boss, there will be a gate that you can squeeze through at the back end of the arena, but before you do this, we recommend heading back to the beacon before this boss to obtain more healing items before heading through the gate. Also, the Etching Needles are not acquired simply from the boss but instead from a chest that is found after the gate.
