We’re finally at a point where you need help to beat the bosses of Mortal Shell 2, and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Be it the teleporting Lucian or Grishna, you’ll probably think you’ve seen it all up to now, but you couldn’t be more wrong. As you’re struggling, we’ll run you through location, rewards, and exactly how to beat Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods in Mortal Shell 2, and more importantly, how to do it easily.

Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods Location in Mortal Shell 2

Unlike the fight, finding Magdalena is pretty straightforward. Starting at the Mushroom Village Beacon, head East towards the Corrupted Gate. You’ll need to complete the Beacon in front of it first, containing Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist, but after that, head into the Gate and start your journey.

Fair warning: Magdalena is the final of three bosses in this Gate, and is by far the hardest, but certainly not the oddest. That title goes to the Wandering Shepherd. The path through this area is linear, and you’ll be taken through a flooded village, wooden bridges, and past aforementioned bosses. Eventually, you’ll come to the Wandering Shepherd, and once you’ve beaten him, you’ll want to head to the back of his arena and squeeze through the gap here. Drop down and head through the cave on the left. Don’t miss the chance to unlock the Summon, and then drop down one more time, with a cinematic waiting. This is Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods.

How to Beat Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods in Mortal Shell 2

Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods, is one of the game’s first real deviations from the rest of those included in the game. Whereas most bosses are big, slow, lumbering, and weird and wonderful in a number of ways, Magdalena is a little different. Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how to beat her, though, you should know my build to make it easier to understand the strategy.

  • Eredrim Shell – Location here.
  • Veteran’s Battle Axe – Location here.
  • Troubadour Lute.
  • Vatra Seal.
  • Marksman’s Stone – Increases crit chance of ranged weapons.
  • Retribution Stone – Increases Riposte damage.
  • Deadeye Stone – Increases ranged crit damage.
  • Berserker Stone – Increases damage output the lower your health is.

The Lute, just like the Summon just outside the arena, will prove invaluable here. As you begin the fight, right after the cinematic introducing Magdalena, she will drive incredibly quickly at you. You’ll need to dodge here, as, like all of her attacks they’re unblockable.

Her trying to run you over will be her main method of attack, and if you’re not paying attention to how she telegraphs it – a rev of her engine -, you’ll find yourself taking massive damage without having time to react, so before you even think about trying to hurt her, you need to prepare yourself for her attacks. As mentioned, she will try to run you over at a moment’s notice, but if you’re too close to her and she can’t do that, she instead uses her chair to spin in a circle, spitting out fire all over you. Make sure you back up here, as the fire will hurt you, obviously, but also instil Burn, and as well as that, she can also run you over with this attack.

These are her two main attacks, and if you can figure out which she’ll do and when, and protect yourself from them, you’ll have a good chance. Now, onto actually how to beat Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods.

Thanks to the Summon, Magdalena’s attention will be divided a little. Use this to your advantage. When she’s focusing on the Summon, head over to her, albeit gingerly, and use your Lute to stun her, and then go and use a Riposte attack on her. While she may be damaging in her own right and have every chance of killing you straight up, she’s also incredibly weak. Two Riposte attacks should be enough to kill her; if not, it’ll bring her to the brink.

You can repeat this twice, or use your Shell Ability; in this case, for me it’s Eredrim’s Shoulder Bash. This is a risky attack to use as it requires powering up. Against the smaller, slower enemies, it’s perfect, but against Magdalena it can be at risk of death; if it hits, it’ll devastate her, usually stunning her, allowing another Riposte attack, but certainly damaging her a huge amount.

On the subject of Riposte attacks, make sure you attack her from her front. Trying to Riposte her from any other direction will result in you Light Attacking her, which will result in you missing an opportunity to hurt her a lot more.

All in all, while Magdalena has every opportunity of killing you, her low health and weakness to stun will make her cannon fodder for most of you. Beating her means you’ll get the following rewards:

  • Glimpse x 1
  • Gloom
  • Magdalena’s Memento

After you’ve beaten her, make sure you cleanse the corruption and grab a ridiculous amount of Ova ready to take back to Marrow’s Keep.
