Mio and Zoe in Split Fiction

Split Fiction – Where to Find Every Side Story

Struggling with Split Fiction? Is your partner letting you down? Well, whether it’s during gameplay or a boss, we have absolutely all the answers you could possibly need. This guide will be your Split Fiction walkthrough for the game’s side stories, letting you find and play them without missing any.

Side Stories in the game are hidden levels that are spread through the game’s many chapters, each representing one of Mio or Zoe’s old stories outside of the ones they provided to Rader. As such, they represent important memories from their days before they met each other, adding quirky new mechanics and locations to a game that is filled to the brim with them. It’s time to dive in and track down all of the twelve side stories!

The first chapter in Split Fiction hosts three Side Stories at various points in Mio’s tale of a cybernetic ninja taking revenge against unfair parking tickets. They can be found throughout the chapter as follows:

  • The Legend of the Sandfish is hard to miss considering that the game introduces you to Side Stories right after an exciting highway chase. A cutscene plays out and going through the portal it shows you takes lets you tackle this interesting blend of the best of Dune and Prince of Persia. Nice touch, Hazelight!
  • Farmlife can be found right after taking down Mr. Hammer and completing the chase sequence that follows the boss battle. The portal can be found right after the ensuing cutscene, taking Mio and Zoe to a story where they are flatulent pigs with whimsical powers.
  • The Mountain Hike requires you to get to a point where you find three portable toilets standing in a row right before getting to the Gemini Imperium Hotel. Mio must enter one of them, allowing Zoe to yeet it to the opposite rooftop where Mio can then drop a ladder for Zoe to climb and enter this Side Story that must be seen to be believed.

Split Fiction’s second chapter hosts the next three Side Stories for Mio and Zoe to take on as they make their way to the Ice King. Let’s take a look at where to find them.

  • Train Heist can be found right after the section where Mio drags Zoe through the water while the latter holds onto a tree trunk. It’s hard to miss considering they both point out the presence of a portal although it can be tricky to reach, requiring that they wall run and glide across a pond to reach it, taking them to Mio’s daring account of a thrilling chase with an excellent boss battle at the end of it.
  • The Gameshow is right after the sequence where Zoe controls the environment while Mio switches between a monkey and a fish to navigate a shifting landscape. The portal to this challenging platforming tale can be found to the left as soon as Mio and Zoe reunite.
  • Collapsing Star is accessed via a portal on a balcony about halfway through the Ice King’s palace, taking Mio and Zoe to a star that is on the verge of destruction in a visually spectacular level that the two heroines must navigate with haste.

The third chapter of the game once again hosts portals to three Side Stories for Mio and Zoe to take on. They are found at these locations:

  • The portal to Kites can be found at the end of the long tube filled with toxic fumes and can be seen from quite a distance away. That’s a good thing since this old story of Zoe’s is an excellent race that uses kites, and cannons, and boosts to great effect in typical Hazelight fashion.
  • Moon Market can be found a short distance from the Factory Warden boss battle at the end of a section requiring that Mio and Zoe use a crane to navigate the environment. The portal can be found on a ledge after the color-coded door that they must work together to open and requires a bit of deft platforming to get to.
  • Notebook can be accessed right after Mio and Zoe acquire jetpacks via a portal to the left of the giant spiked wheel that must be bypassed in order to access. It’s well worth the effort considering how beautiful this 2D adventure of Zoe’s is and the insight it gives into her backstory is a crucial part of her character arc.

No grand adventure is complete without dragons and Split Fiction is no different. The game’s fourth chapter houses the final three Side Stories for Mio and Zoe to find, the portals to which can be found as follows:

  • Slopes of War is accessed right after Mio and Zoe hatch their dragon eggs, to the left of the golden balls (anime fans might recognize them) that Mio and Zoe must jump across to get to the rock skipping pond. Solving the lever puzzle here takes you to the Side Story that pits the two heroines against each other in a friendly competition. May the best writer win.
  • Space Escape is found on the linear path after beating the Dragon Slayer, requiring good use of Mio’s glide and Zoe’s roll to access. This romp through a collapsing space station is certainly worth the effort it takes to get there!
  • Birthday Cake, an old story of Mio’s that truly pushes the limits of what Hazelight can come up with, is accessed right after the Dragon Souls puzzle via a gummy bear to the left of the main path.

Once you’ve finished Birthday Cake, one of the most bizarre side stories, you’ll have found and completed them all in the game, and can move on to the ending that’ll leave you breathless!
