How to Beat The Co-Director in Control Resonant

We are in the home stretch for Control Resonant, with only a few bosses to go, with one of the final bosses you will likely encounter is The Co-Director, and yes, if you have read this far, you will be in for numerous spoilers for the final sections of the game, so please be warned: if you haven’t reached the Unknown yet, do not read on.

How to Find The Co-Director in Control Resonant

For those who have carried on reading, congratulations; you are in store for probably one of the saddest bosses, depending on how you look at it. As simply put, you will be looking to fight Arish, who has now been Patterned within the Unknown.

To find The Co-Director boss fight, you will need to do a little bit of exploring to find him, as he can be found on the large island at the top of the Unknown map, with quite a long path needed to get to it, and is tied to the Pope’s Research quest the entire way, which we will bullet point below:

  • First, head to the small island on the bottom left of the Unknown map
  • Second, you will need to head to the second small island on the bottom of the map from the first.
  • Third, you will need to go from the second small island to the large island between them both.
  • Finally, on this large island, you will then need to head straight across the entire map to the other large island on the top of the map.

Once you get through all this traversing around the Unknown, you will now be on the second large island that is rather linear, but it isn’t as simple as just running around, as there are different situations that you need to progress through in order to find The Co-Director.

First of all, once you arrive at this island, you will enter a factory where a group of FBC agents are fighting the Hiss. Once you defeat these enemies, you will have dialogue with these agents where you will find out they are a part of Arish’s squad and they are looking for him, and they are following you through the island from here on out. Do not worry if they die, as they simply get replaced (which sounds horrible, but you will understand later)

After you leave the warehouse, you will come across 4 guard posts that are glitching around due to the Patterning that has also created a gate blocking your path forward. In order to fix these guard posts and open the gate, you will need to hit the guard posts in a specific order, which sadly is random each time, to set them right.

For us, we found that hitting the more prominently floating and glitching guard posts eventually caused the solution to appear naturally, but it took a lot of trial and error to get the solution right, and there is no obvious right answer.

Once you complete this puzzle, you can proceed to the next area of the mission, which is simply a lot of fighting and running around until you reach a locked gate. To open this locked gate, you will need a power source, and this can be easily found by running back to where you came from, but instead of heading back through the room where enemies were, you instead need to follow the road until it falls down.

Now you simply need to head down this slanted road, which will have a locked door that you need to jump over before finding a power source hidden at the bottom. After you gain the power source, you will need to bring it back up, and to do this, you will need to put the power source into a door on the slanted road before taking it back out and jumping back over the wall to eventually bring the power source to the main door.

As you open the door, you will now have to deal with another wave of enemies that are looking to fight you before being able to enter a factory again, before making your way up to its roof and eventually stumbling into another locked door. This time there isn’t anything you can do to open this door, and instead you need to head up to the roofs of the buildings next to the door to make your way around the door in a long path.

Although this path isn’t very long, you will eventually find yourself outside a second version of the Field Office where another bunch of enemies will spawn that you will need to fight. After a short while, the FBC agents will eventually break through the door that was blocking them, and they will aid you in this fight as you slowly earn their respect and trust before heading into the Field Office, where an elevator can be found at the back of it, waiting for you to enter along with your newfound team.

Sadly, this elevator ride isn’t very long, as once you get inside the elevator, a door on the side will open up, allowing you to interact with it and begin the boss fight with The Co-Director.

How to Beat The Co-Director

So far in the game, you will have fought so many bosses and enemies that you will likely be prepared for anything, but if you aren’t sure, here is our build we used to defeat The Co-Director:

  • Glaive – Wide sweeping attack that deals raw damage
  • Crush – A slow but high-damage attack that can knock enemies down
  • Split Pivot combo finisher – A spinning blade that appears at the end of a combo
  • Volatile Anomaly – Summons an ally that shoots enemies and can be thrown at them
  • Inferno – Turns your melee weapon and Volatile Anomaly into fire based attacks
  • Push – Allows you to push enemies with great force
  • Growth – Summons turret-like enemies that inflict Infected status effect
  • Spike – Summons an Astral Sphere that attacks enemies and inflicts the Astrolized status effect

Now that you are here and ready to fight Arish, it is time to jump into what makes this boss such a challenge, as arguably it is one of the hardest fights in the game. The first detail that makes The Co-Director a challenge is the fact that he can fly around the arena, and that he does this nearly constantly, so chasing him around is a big annoyance.

However, this isn’t the only challenge attached to this boss, as he is also able to take control of the various FBC agents that enter the arena with you, making them his little puppets. Now, this isn’t that large of a threat, as they don’t do a lot of damage, and the ones he doesn’t change will likely deal with them for you, but they can grow in numbers if you don’t cull them just a little bit.

Other than this, The Co-Director does boast a lot of his own attacks that can grow in effectiveness as the fight goes on, the first being an ability where he summons agents around himself in his ring that each throw a grenade towards the player. If you are up close to the boss when this happens, the grenades will likely just fly past you and won’t hurt you anyway, so that isn’t a big stress, but as the fight goes on, these grenades change into rocket launchers instead, and if they hit you, they can deal a LOT of damage.

Another attack that the boss will use against you is that he can charge up a spinning attack around him that will use his halo of people to spin quite a few times, which can hurt you quite a lot if you are caught up inside of it. Along with this, the boss can also do a large spin attack where he will grind the halo of agents along the floor as he chases you around the arena. If you sprint around, this can easily be avoided, but again, it can hurt if it connects with you.

Besides these abilities, there is one final attack that Arish will use, which is where he will use the laser beam that normally he would use against the NPCs to turn them to his side, but instead he will use it to laser the floor, chasing you around the arena. Again, this is easy to avoid but can hurt quite a fair bit.

The biggest stress that players will come across during this boss fight is that it is actually a timed boss fight, with a debuff constantly gaining progress on your screen and generating a sort of purplish glow around your screen, as this is a threat of you turning into an entity like Arish. As you can see on Dylan, his head begins to glow, and if this debuff is finished, it is an instant loss.

Once you defeat Arish, you will be welcomed to a rather sad finisher attack and gain a new ability known as Command, which allows you to take over an enemy’s mind and turn them to your side, with bigger enemies requiring more charges to accomplish it.
