Once you get this far in the story, you can head into the Underpass from the sinkhole in the Evacuation Zone, where you will make your way into a mind-boggling location filled with plenty of important story details to uncover.

However, once you get to this location, one of the more important locations you will want to look for pertaining to this guide is the white hole in the ceiling, as this is where you will want to go. In order to get there, especially on your first visit, it is so much simpler for you to follow the different ropes that the team before you has placed throughout the area, as this will help guide you through this rather trippy location.

As you arrive at the FBC teams camp in the center of the location, you will find yourself directly below the entrance to this Resonance’s domain, and all you need to do is climb up before eventually getting to a hole in the ceiling that you can climb up with your Gravitational Shift ability and end up within the familiar white-filled domain that The Board used to inhabit.

After you make your way into this realm, you will now have a new goal, which is to make your way to the Resonance itself, and that isn’t exactly an easy task. First you will need to make your way to the pathway that is central to the realm where you can head to the right and eventually get yourself to a door that is blocking your way that you need a key to open.

There are two different paths you can take to get a key; from this door you can either head right or left, where you will have to take on a trial of some sorts in order to acquire the key. The right-hand side of the realm requires you to chase a fake loot box through a few different locations where small ball-like enemies will begin to attack you at certain intervals.

Once you chase this loot box to a certain point, it will eventually stop, and you will gain access to a room above you and to the right, where lore and lots of loot can be found and a box with a key. Now you have this key; you can return to the door and open said door, but sadly you might have guessed there is another door, which you will need a second key to open.

So to open this door, we will now talk about the left-hand path, as this is more interesting, as this time you will find yourself at another loot box that you can open, but sadly it’s another trap that will raise you into an arena against more of these spherical enemies.

Then once these enemies are defeated, you will need to head to the left, where you will end up in another trap room where the floor will begin to stab you from below, and you will need to get out of the way to a safe place while the trap sets itself off and goes back to being a normal floor.

Simply after this trap has finished, you can U-turn on yourself to the right, and you will find a new path that leads you to the key and more loot. Again, now you can head back to the door and try and open it with your key, but sadly the game pulls a fast one on you as it has a third door that you will need to unlock.

What you will need to do after you trigger this third door is turn around and head straight down the pathway ahead of you, as a new area will have spawned in, which is a small mazelike area that requires you to search for the final key within with the hint from The Board about needing to “Invert The Gate,” which hints that you will need to be upside down to find the key.

As you explore this new location, you will need to follow a fake save point that will constantly pull tricks on you, whether it be spawning enemies, trapping the floor, or just generally being a nuisance. However, once you find the third save point, what you will need to do is turn around from the way you just came and climb against the wall heading down under the platform you came from.

Once you do this, you will see a healing sphere ahead of you; again, turn around, and there will be a place to jump to, and this is where the key will be.

Now you finally have complete access to the boss room for The Physicist so you can get revenge for all these topsy-turny nightmares you have had to endure.

How to Beat The Physicist

Control Resonant The Physicist battle.

After so many doors and keys to find, you must be ready to hit something, and you will as The Physicist boss will now make his way onto the battlefield with him being a much larger sphere than those you have been fighting with, with some rather weird attacks and situations you will need to avoid.

If you are feeling a little unsure if you are ready for this boss yet, there is no need to worry, as we have included our build below so you can see what we used to defeat him with ease:

  • Glaive – Wide sweeping attack that deals raw damage
  • Crush – A slow but high-damage attack that can knock enemies down
  • Split Pivot combo finisher – A spinning blade that appears at the end of a combo
  • Volatile Anomaly – Summons an ally that shoots enemies and can be thrown at them
  • Inferno – Turns your melee weapon and Volatile Anomaly into fire based attacks
  • Push – Allows you to push enemies with great force
  • Growth – Summons turret-like enemies that inflict Infected status effect

First of all are his attacks, which overall aren’t that hard to avoid, as there are instances where The Physicist will begin charging up an aura around him, which indicates he will do a large splash attack around him, which can be avoided by running away. Another attack he often employs is when he flies into the sky and splits into a plus sign, as this indicates he is about to throw rocks at you 3 times which you need to avoid.

Finally, the other attack he will employ is where he will grow a leg of sorts along the floor, which he will swipe around him in a circle but only once in an attempt to hit you. All of these attacks are very simple to avoid and don’t take a lot of effort in the long run, but once the boss loses 1/4 of his health, things begin to change.

The second you get the boss to 3/4 health, you will notice that he flies up into the sky away from you and begins creating a sort of boatlike ring below him; this means that he is going to slam into the ground, breaking the arena below you. Once he does this, you will need to escape to the next floating platform, which you see in the background of his intro cutscene. You do not need to worry when this happens, as the floor takes a long time to break and you can easily climb between the platforms.

As you arrive on this second platform, the boss will wait for a few seconds before splitting into smaller versions of itself that you need to take out. Sadly this doesn’t do massive damage to the boss overall, but once you defeat these spheres, it is nearly back to normal, but this time the boss has a new attack that he can employ.

This new attack is pretty simple, as the boss will slam into the floor again, but this time he will cause a spike to rupture from the floor, which will move across the floor, tracking you slightly before stabbing up once again. Although this ability does track, it is very slow and easily outmaneuvered, so again, you do not need to worry.

Other than this new attack, the boss fight is pretty much the exact same, but this time you need to get him down to less than half his health to get him to move onto the final arena, where again you have plenty of time to move from one to another.

Now you simply need to bring together everything you have learned from these other phases of the boss fight while also having to avoid smaller versions of the boss that he will summon in order to keep you distracted, which can be simple enough as they move rather slowly and don’t have a lot of power behind them.

Once you defeat The Physicist, you will now be able to learn two new skills, one being the Spike, which allows you to summon your own little ball of Astral energy to aid you in combat, or Astral Rebuke, which is a mimic of the boss’s travelling spike attack.
