As you are playing through Valor Mortis, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your character through a skill tree that has numerous options for you to choose from, with each being as enticing as the last.
However, you may make a choice that you do not think was worth it in the long run, and that’s what leads you to a respec, and it’s very easy to do so.
How to Respec Your Character in Valor Mortis
Once you have made your way to a lantern to rest, this is where you can now upgrade your character through the resource you gain by killing enemies.
Just like most Soulslikes, the resource requirement rises with each upgrade, making the choice harder each time, as you need to be careful which one you go for.
At the beginning, the options are very simple, with things like an upgrade to your health, your endurance (stamina), or your nephoglobin, which can be used for magic.

After these upgrades there are more interesting ones that you will likely want to purchase, but you might have already chosen something else, or you might decide to focus on a new build after gaining new weapons or powers.
If this is the case, then you simply need to go back to the skill tree menu at the rest spot, and while on this menu, there will be a button prompt at the bottom right of the screen, with each platform using a different button.
