Throughout the world of Valor Mortis, you will often come across side quests that will hit you right in the feels, whether it be a wedding that has been destroyed by a flood, a group of kids abandoned by the world, or a daughter left in a coma by her father, but there is one quest that won’t make you feel as sad as these, and this is The Laudanum quest.

How to Complete The Laudanum Quest in Valor Mortis

Before we talk about how you can complete The Laudanum quest, first we need to talk about how you can acquire said quest, and it’s quite simple to do, as what you need to do is make sure you are in Chapter 7 of Valor Mortis and have made your way to the third lantern rest spot within this chapter.

Now, this lantern rest spot does cover quite a large area, with over 3 shortcuts being provided to bring you back to this lantern, but the shortcut you will want to look out for is the third and final one, as this shortcut is how you will know you are near The Laudanum side quest, and that is because you need to walk past it to start it.

How to Start The Laudanum Quest in Valor Mortis

As we have mentioned above, when you are approaching the third and final shortcut leading back to the third lantern rest spot for this chapter, you will be able to begin this quest, and the way you do this is that a house just before the shortcut will have a voice coming from it, with the building looking like a tavern.

Once you approach this building, the voice will become clearer as it’s asking for your help. The person in question is an old lady who is asking for your aid, as she claims to have taken in a group of children who require her aid, and she is protecting them from the Crimson Plague and the rest of the residents who are going insane.

If you have a good sense of people and have noticed the theme of Valor Mortis, you will begin to notice that this character is a little bit suspicious, but you are here to save the lives of whoever you can. After you talk to this woman, she will ask you to obtain some Laudanum for her that can help the kids in her care, and you can find some further on within the chapter at a house that was owned by a man who loved his dog more than anything and was hoarding the Laudanum for himself after his dog passed away.

Your goal will now be to find this house and find some Laudanum to bring it back to the old lady so that she can aid the kids, and this is what you shall do.

Now you have accepted the quest from the old lady; what you will need to do is obviously open the shortcut if you haven’t and rest up, but after this you will simply need to continue with the main path of the game, as you physically cannot miss the house you need to find.

To continue with the game, what you need to do is follow a path around to the left of some debris and through more destroyed buildings until you re-emerge by the fourth lantern rest spot of this chapter, which is positioned right by the house you need to locate, but sadly you cannot gain entrance from this side.

To gain entrance to the house, you simply need to follow the pathway around to the left until you reach two barns. The barn on the left is your main target, as you will need to fight your way past some tough enemies and head up to the top floor so you can then travel over to the other barn, where you then need to head downstairs and fight some stealthy enemies before emerging in the back garden of the house you need to find.

You will know you have found the right house because you will be in a gated-off garden with a grave inside of it that has a dog collar placed upon it, and when you interact with it, your character will make a comment about this being the beloved dog of the man you are looking for.

After you do this, you will now need to head inside the house and make your way upstairs. Again, there are a few enemies lurking around this house, so make sure you take them out; otherwise, you will get overwhelmed, as it’s a small space. Once you are upstairs, there are two different ways you can go. The first path is that there will be a hole in the floor in the corner of the room that will allow you to drop down and obtain the bottle of Laudanum that you need to complete the side quest, which then opens a locked door leading you back into the main downstairs area.

The second path is the exit that provides a shortcut to get back, and this is a hole in the wall on the second floor of the house, but make sure you open the shortcut, as getting back to this area to continue the story is quite annoying, so you do not want to miss out on a shortcut, and this version of a shortcut is simply interacting with a rope to drop a plank of wood so you can climb up later.

What to do with the Laudanum Bottle

After you have obtained the bottle, the task is pretty simple, and that is to return to the old lady in the house, where she will be very grateful to you for bringing this important item to her, but you may want to note that William will mention the kids once more and how this might help them, and the old lady acts very shady about it, as she has seemingly forgotten about it.

Finally, once you finish talking to her, she will reward you for your efforts and will even invite you back to check on the kids if you so wish, and to do this, you will first need to head back to a lantern rest spot, and we found the most consistent way to trigger this and use our time wisely was to teleport back to the abandoned church, do some upgrades, and then head back where you will now find the door to the tavern open.

Sadly, going into this tavern, you will not find a happy ending, as the woman in question was simply a town drunk and was only using you to get alcohol, which eventually killed her. However, the worst part about this quest was that this woman was, in fact, in charge of a group of kids, but not in a good way.

While you are looking around the woman’s house, you will find a note that explains she has been kidnapping kids off the street and using them as an excuse to get strangers to help her, and she even found that if she managed to allow the kids to cry, get even sicker, and even suffer, they would sound more convincing, and people would help her quicker and more effectively.

This basically meant that the woman in question was kidnapping children and using them as bait to lure in different people so that she could obtain alcohol while still allowing the different kids to die under her watch upstairs in her house, which thankfully the game does not let you see.
