How to Complete the Shrike’s Anthem Side Quest in Valor Mortis

Chapter VII of Valor Mortis has a complete village full of houses to explore and side quests to complete. This particular quest is located in the middle of Chapter VII. It has to do with bird nests and kids singing about the war. These orphans sing about the Shrike, the leader of the rebellion in this war where there is a plague, dark magic, and all kinds of bizarre things.

How to Complete the Shrike’s Anthem Side Quest in Valor Mortis

Just after you unlock the third fast travel point in Chapter VII, there is a gigantic village to explore, full of enemies and secrets to discover. This area is very big and has many houses to visit. Obviously, it is completely flooded with enemies around every corner. In several of these houses, you’ll find a bird nest.

They are not difficult to find because there are pictures of birds painted in white near the nests. After following the main path, you’ll encounter the first one, and then you need to keep going, watching for these white bird drawings to keep finding the orphans singing for the Shrike.

Finding All the Bird Nests

In the same area as a stone bridge, there are at least three nests to find, so you need to jump, and watch your step because the area is full of enemies, and keep looking all over the place. At one end of the bridge, you’ll see a dead horse. Just to the left of this horse, you’ll find another drawing. Break the wood, and you’ll see the nest.

At the opposite end of the bridge, on the far left, after encountering a blocked door, you can access another barn by breaking the wood. Crouch down on the right side, and you’ll find another nest to almost complete the side quest.

In that same barn, you need to climb up, and you’ll find many enemies. Then, you’ll see the blocked door from the other side. Keep going forward, and you’ll see a place to jump over a sunken house. Turn the camera to the left, and you’ll see another place to jump. Up there, you’ll find the next nest.

The Orphans Keep Singing

You’ll need to backtrack into the barn where the door was locked and go up to the main road on the left side. This area will also be full of enemies, so be aware of your surroundings at all times. On the main road, you’ll spot a giant enemy. After defeating him, go left and begin exploring those houses.

After exploring all the houses, you’ll reach the edge of this little island, where you’ll be able to spot a lighthouse being destroyed by Napoleon’s orders after unlocking another blocked door. Then, near that area, look for a ledge to grab onto and climb over the rooftops of the houses. Once up there, you can jump over several houses.

Eventually, you’ll spot wooden tables that will lead you to the final nest to complete this quest. Be careful not to fall down, as the tables are very thin, so it’s easy to miss a step. Getting up there is not easy, so be careful.
