How to Complete the In the Name of Art Side Quest in Valor Mortis

This particular side quest is very easy to complete in Valor Mortis. In Chapter V, in the woods, you´ll find a couple of side quests besides this one. You can do many of them at the same time to keep gathering resources and important items. This side quest is about an artist who makes the ultimate choice of taking his own life after making some horrible mistakes.

How to Complete the In the Name of Art Side Quest in Valor Mortis

Once you are in the woods, you can explore in various directions. When you reach a closed door near a Grapple point, you should go in the opposite direction. After going left, you´ll find a house with two floors and a couple of branches blocking the paths. On the right side of the house, you´ll find the first red dot to shoot and clear the violet branches, allowing you to enter the house.

After entering the house, you can also make progress on another side quest called The Deserter. Once inside, you should go upstairs, where you´ll find a flashback that shows you how the In the Name of Art side quest begins. Then, you´ll see a corpse hanging from the ceiling. Interact with it, and you´ll activate the side quest.

Looking Through the Window

When you interact with the body, you´ll find out that this person was an artist who was making some kind of deal with the rebels. Something also happened to his daughter, and, as you might guess, it doesn´t end well. Looking through the window, you´ll see a gravestone on a nearby hill.

Looking to the right, you´ll see the red dot you need to shoot to explode the violet veins and open another path to unlock the next part of the side quest. After reaching the gravestone, you´ll see another flashback while also finding the basement key to the house. You´ll see the artist and his wife grieving over their dead daughter.

Going Back to the House

With the basement key, go back to the house and open the door. You´ll find a flooded area and then an exit leading to some kind of cave. You´ll have to kill some enemies and burn through some veins. Be aware of the enemies on the walls that launch projectiles.

Then, you´ll encounter another flashback in which you´ll see the wife discover that the artist was making poison for the rebels, which is why their daughter died. Then, keep moving forward to discover the wife´s corpse, bringing you close to finishing the side quest.

This whole story ends with the artist killing his wife out of anger and then deciding to kill himself out of guilt. Valor Mortis keeps reminding us how awful war can be and shows how people can become something completely horrendous.
