Fighting in Valor Mortis can be quite a challenge depending on the enemies you fight, as they have a lot of fast attacks that will keep you on your toes. However, there is a way to make fighting easier, and that is by staggering your enemies and dealing massive damage through a staggered attack.

While you are fighting numerous enemies on your journey, you will be granted the option to try and either dodge or parry them depending on your play style, but if you are looking to stagger them, using parry is your best option.

In order to stagger your enemies through the parry action, you will need to have quite perfect timing against their attacks, as the game is very unforgiving in regard to how easily enemies can be staggered.

Although learning to stagger enemies isn’t exactly the hard part, actually managing to learn their attacks is probably the hardest part, as their attacks are incredibly fast and will constantly catch you by surprise, forcing you to be extra vigilant, especially against groups of enemies.

However, once you manage to learn how to parry the very fast attacks of enemies, you will then be able to start staggering them at a reasonable pace, allowing you to begin using the stagger attack, which can be incredibly useful, especially against smaller enemies, as it can one-shot them and help you move through the areas a lot easier.

Also, be warned: to be able to stagger enemies; you will need to make sure you are doing a perfect parry against the enemy, as basic parries will only protect you from major damage but still do a small amount of damage, which you can gain back if you attack the enemy quickly enough.

Along with being able to stagger basic enemies, you can even stagger bosses as well, which works slightly differently, as you can still use the parry system to deal massive stagger progress to them, but you can even use your melee attacks to generate stagger progress; this is a lot slower in comparison, as essentially rather than doing around 30-35% of the stagger bar through perfect parries, you instead do around 5% on melee attacks, making the progress incredibly slow.

However, if you aren’t a massive fan of parrying, this does mean that you can simply take your time through melee attacks and can gradually build up the option to stagger the enemy that way, but sadly this does not work on standard enemies, as their stagger bars are much shorter, so it isn’t necessary.
