While you are fighting through Valor Mortis, you will need to learn how to parry, dodge, and even counterattack to defeat your enemies with enough skill so that you won’t be dying all the time. We are here to help you get an edge on how to do these mechanics to the best of your abilities.
How to Parry in Valor Mortis

As you are exploring Valor Mortis, you might be looking to be a more parry-focused player where you parry enemies’ attacks and stagger them, allowing you to do a stagger attack that destroys their health, so here is how you can do this easily.
To start off, you will first need to make sure that you are prepared for enemies to rush right towards you throughout the game, as Valor Mortis boasts rapid attacks from enemies, meaning you need to have some quick reactions to parry on time in order to actually get the stagger.
Once you are prepared, the main thing you are going to need is the timing skills to use your parry button, which you can rebind using different controller layouts, and parry at the moment an attack would collide with you, not as the attack winds up, not after the attack hits, but as the attack hits.
This may seem quite annoying, as getting the timing down does take a lot of practice, and there are even ways to make this easier by using the Rapier melee weapon, as this is designed to be used for parries unlike the standard Sword.
How to Dodge in Valor Mortis
If you aren’t much of a fan of parrying, do not worry, as there is also the option to dodge away from your enemies within Valor Mortis, and this can be done again using a button of your choice through the controller layouts that are provided.
Unlike parrying, dodging can be done quite often and at any time, so you can even use it to speed up running around if you are that desperate, but there are drawbacks, as dodging does use stamina, and since you only have one stamina bar, you can run out very easily when you mix in attacks, making you vulnerable quite often.
Along with being able to simply dodge enemy attacks on a whim, there are bonuses to using the dodge ability as well, as you can even time dodging to the right moment when the enemy’s attack is about to hit, where you dodge out of the way, slow down time, and allow yourself to do a massive damage-dealing attack.
Now this can be quite inconsistent as a way of dealing major damage, but if you are a big fan of dodging in these types of games, it can be a very easy way of taking enemies down rapidly without having to raise your sword in defence.
How to Counter in Valor Mortis

When it comes to Valor Mortis, there isn’t a counter system per se, as you cannot parry an attack and strike back, dealing damage in a normal way, but there are two different ways you can counter your opponents that are similar, and we have already mentioned them above, but we shall mention them again.
The first being the ability to stagger your enemies and deal a massive amount of damage to them using a stagger attack. Now, as we say, this may not be the perfect definition of a counter, but it can be used especially against rank-and-file enemies to parry their one attack and then defeat them with one stagger attack, so it can work as a counter, but it is more defined as a stagger attack than anything else.
The second version of a counter is during the dodging action, where you can wait to dodge until the very last second of the enemy’s attack in order to trigger a slow-down effect and give you time to strike back. Although this leans more into a counterattack than the first, it is still its own version of an attack that can deal high amounts of damage to enemies.
