Once you begin the 7th Chapter of Valor Mortis, you will first be introduced to this city through a small section of parkour and a few enemies before ultimately ending up at the second lantern rest spot, where you will be blocked by a fog wall and the upcoming boss, the High Justicar Aurelius, Last of the Faithful, which may look like a standard Eternal Guard, but he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

After you complete the parkour section leading up to the High Justicar Aurelius, Last of the Faithful, you will now be able to take on this boss in order to gain access to the city after crossing his small bridge, and to do this, you will need to be careful about how you challenge this boss.

If you have managed to fight one of these Eternal Guards before, as they are tied to another quest within Valor Mortis, then you will be quite prepared for this boss, as the attacks are very much the same, but for those who haven’t fought this boss yet, we have included a list below of the various attacks you can expect.

  • A quick attack the boss can use is when it draws a pistol and shoots at you; this isn’t a lot to worry about, but it can deal a fair amount of damage
  • The boss can sometimes swing its sword from its right-hand side across its body as a single attack
  • Another variation of this attack is where it will begin with what seems like a single attack before it starts a 5-attack combo
  • A small-distance closing attack the boss can use is where it slashes from the left-hand side as it lunges towards you
  • Although it is rare, the boss can jump into the air to do a large stabbing attack towards the player and can be quite annoying to dodge or parry due to the delay in its attack
  • One combo the boss can use is where it will do two standard slashes before doing a distance-covering unblockable slash
  • Sometimes the boss will do a standard slash from the left-hand side before doing a stabbing attack, closing the distance
  • Another attack the boss can use is where it will stab forward twice with its sword before doing two more slashes as a large combo
  • Finally, the boss can sometimes initiate a simple unblockable attack where it readies its sword on its left-hand side before pushing towards the player

These are all the attacks the boss will likely use against the player during this first boss phase, but once you get the boss down to a very small amount of health, it will kneel down onto one knee and begin to transition into its second phase.

How to Beat the High Justicar Aurelius, Last of the Faithful’s Phase Two

Once this second phase begins, the boss will generate a second arm, but this time it will be a fleshy arm from the Crimson Plague, meaning it will begin to use more monstrous attacks along with the combos it already uses, so make sure you prepare to counter the standard attacks as well as the new ones we have provided below.

  • A big intro attack the boss can sometimes use is when it will jump into the air and slam down in an unblockable attack with its new arm
  • There is a second version of this attack where, instead of slamming down with the hand, the boss will just crash towards the floor with a shoulder barge with the new arm
  • A two-attack combo the boss can use is where it will grow its new arm and do a spinning attack with it before attempting an uppercut, both clearing the area and making it gather some space from the player

Although there aren’t a lot of additional attacks for this phase, their damage and speed can be incredibly painful, especially for those who are not prepared, so make sure you enter ready for a fight.

After you defeat the boss, you will now be able to enter the next area of Chapter 7 and will even earn yourself 18,000 Catalysts for defeating the boss.
