At this point in Valor Mortis, you will have managed to overcome numerous bosses, both big and small, leading up to Chapter 10, where you will now have to face Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris in battle after making your way through the ruins of a castle, and this battle isn’t just an ordinary boss fight; this boss fight kicks off the ending of the game, so take this as your warning to make sure you do any unfinished business before beating this boss and interacting with the relic at the end.
How to Find Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris in Valor Mortis

First of all, let’s talk about how you can find Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris, and the first thing you will want to do is obviously make your way to Chapter 10 of Valor Mortis, which is the ruined castle, and begin your search for the boss. Now, this location is full of very annoying enemies, with many of them being tanky, dangerous, and even copies of old bosses, but there is nothing to fear as you are also rocking powerful weapons and abilities to take them on.
As you enter this area, you will need to make your way into the heart of the castle by lighting the two tower pyres and opening the gates that lead up to the main castle. Once inside the courtyard you will then need to look towards heading into the castle where an Eternal Guard is waiting for you and the opportunity to climb to the second floor of the chapel he resides in before exiting through a broken wall and entering the courtyard once again but this time on the scaffolding.
Now you are on the scaffolding; you will need to begin a large amount of parkour, as you will move through until you end on the outside of the castle using wall jumps, bars to hop from, grapple points, and so much more. However, be warned: you are not alone here, as there are cannons that will shoot you and flying enemies that will push you off the platforms, so be ready for a fight.
If you continue to follow this path, you will no doubt find yourself at an elevator at the end of this section that will lead you up to where the boss will be waiting with a lantern rest spot waiting just outside the arena.
How to Beat Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris

Now that you have arrived at Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris’ arena, you will be able to fight this boss and begin the final sections of the game. Please be warned once again: this boss is one of the final bosses in the game and can kick off the final sections, so make sure you have everything in order before you begin.
While you are fighting Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris, there are quite a few scenarios that you need to keep an eye out for while fighting him, as these can be quite challenging to overcome, so you will want to go in fully prepared.
The first scenario that the boss will throw at you is that he can actually heal during the fight. Yes, this boss has access to Ferrofluid, meaning that he can use this to heal during the fight and keep it going longer, and he often does this when retreating.
Along with this, the boss can also use both Fire and Stasis Transmutations, making him a threat at all kinds of ranges, especially when he brings out his pistol.
Other than this, the boss will mainly be a challenge just simply due to his wide range of attacks that he will employ as he can be quite relentless in his combos and will no doubt push you to the brink of dodging and parrying.
When it comes to his attacks, we have made a list below of all the different attacks and combos that Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris can and will use against you:
- The first attack we will mention is when he uses his pistol and shoots it a total of 4 times, with a reasonable gap in between to dodge between each bullet
- When the boss chooses, he can use a stasis attack where he slams onto the floor, creating an AOE of stasis that moves away from him, which you can jump over if you time it right, and once he has less than 50% health, he will do this twice in a row
- The boss also has two instances of using fire in his attacks. There is one where he will set his sword aflame and spin around doing a wide circle attack with his flaming sword, or a second version where he slams it down in front of him, which causes blasts in a straight line from the sword across the arena
- In terms of the boss’s normal attacks, there is one where he will do a 4-attack combo where he does 3 slashes with his sword, then finishes with a small blunderbuss shot in a rather straight line
- If the boss is threatened, he can sometimes jump back in a retreat while using his pistol to damage you
- One attack the boss can use is where he will begin with a slash of his sword before attempting a jab, then finishing the combo off with an unblockable jumping thrust
- Although the boss doesn’t always follow this up with an attack, there are occasions where the boss will move so fast it looks like teleportation as he dodges around the arena to get behind you and begin a new attack or to heal
- During the fights’ late stage, the boss can also bring out a 4-5 attack combo depending on your point of view, where he will begin by doing numerous slashes towards the player to close the gap before finishing with a spin attack that can hurt you both at the beginning and end of the spin
- Finally, there are just a fair amount of simple attacks the boss will use as he slashes his sword when he gets close and likes to keep moving around you
Once you get used to the attacks and abilities that Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris will use against you, defeating him will be a piece of cake, and once you do, you will earn yourself 50,000 Catalysts and the opportunity to continue the game, but before you do, we recommend resting and using those Catalysts as the next section of the game brings a lot of risk of losing them.
